Why should you join or renew your membership with Austin Astronomical Society (AAS)? There are so many reasons!

Dark Sky Site at Inks Lake State Park and Pedernales Falls State Park events

  • Observe at least twice a month: once a month for Members Only Star Party and once for the AAS Public Star Party
  • No day use fees for members that volunteer in an outreach capacity on public star party nights

Society Telescope Access

  • Receive training and certification on operating the telescopes owned by the Austin Astronomical Society

Loaner Scope Program

  • Five – 8″ Dobsonian telescopes with very good eyepieces and all the needed accessories to have a good visual observing experience or to test your next scope upgrade!

Observing Buddy/Mentor Program

  • Help connect you to both new and old seasoned AAS members and mentors.  Pair people together for general help, to have an astro-friend or work on Astronomical League awards together.

Astronomical League (AL) Membership

  • Automatic membership to the AL.  A standard member-at-large membership with the AL is $40/year.  You get a FREE AL membership when you are an AAS member.
  • The AL offers several great observing programs at different skill levels. Once a program is completed you are awarded a certificate, pin, and your name published in the Reflector.
  • Reflector is a FREE quarterly subscription magazine sent to you by the AL.

Sidereal Times

  • AAS’ monthly publication (Web and in PDF) that is filled with tons of info, club news, astro photos, articles and events.
