One of the benefits of AAS membership is complimentary enrollment in the Astronomical League (AL). AAS’ members are entitled to participate in the League’s many Observing Programs. The link below highlights our members, past and present, and the program certificates they have earned.
AAS AL Certificates and Recipients
Dawn Davies is the current AAS Astronomical League Coordinator (ALCOR). She is responsible for the receipt and submission of all AL List documentation. The AL’s Observing Lists range from beginner to master levels of difficulty, and from outreach to interstellar observing as subjects. Some of the more popular lists include the Lunar Program, Messier Program, Outreach Award, Double Star Program, and the Sky Puppy Program for junior astronomers (10 years of age and under).
A more comprehensive list of all the observing programs can be found here on the AL’s Observing Programs and Awards page. However, the flow chart below can help you narrow down the offerings based on your interests, equipment, and skill level.
Each list has its own set of rules and submission protocols. As our ALCOR, Dawn will accept your completed documentation for submission and present it to that list’s program chair. Upon receipt and verification of your data, acknowledgment of your accomplishments will be sent to Dawn in the form of a certificate and/or pin. Your achievements also will be celebrated in an issue of the AL’s quarterly periodical, Reflector.
