New General Assembly Meeting Location for July

Our meeting location has changed for this meeting only!  We will be meeting at St Stephen’s School off Loop 360. This is the same location we use to hold Austin Under the Stars.  We’ll meet in the Music Recital Hall of the Helm Fine Arts Center.  That’s building N on the campus map. Map Link. The address is 6500 St. Stephen’s Dr. Austin, TX 78746.

Our featured speaker this month is Tim Kenyon, AAS member and long time member of the Association of Lunar & Planetary Observers (ALPO).  Tim has been a dedicated Mars observer for several decades and will share his experiences and show his drawings of Mars from the past two closest perihelic apparitions of Mars in 1988 and 2003.  This will be a very timely talk given that we are in the middle of the 15 year closest approach of Mars this month.  After August, you’ll have to wait another 15 years for as good a view.  Tim will share his knowledge observing tips, equipment, strategy, etc for making the most of this apparition.

There will be no practical Astronomy Session this month.
