Hi everyone –
Please join us for our last Fast Track event of the season – Myth and Sky! We’ll do it jointly with the Public Star Party at Pedernales Falls State Park on April 7th. We’ll skywalk the Spring sky, learn pointers, talk about the major constellation fields, and deep sky objects of interest. Once we’re done sky walking and discussing mythology, culture, and how stories show in the stars, stay for viewing with the public. Bring your telescope!
This will take place in combination with the public event which starts earlier. The fast track portion will start after dark.
Come explore the wonders of the night sky at a public star party at Pedernales Falls State Park on Saturday, April 7th.
FREE with the cost of park entry, safe solar viewing and dark sky activities will kick off from 6 to 7:30 pm. Night sky observing and other activities will run from 8 to 10 pm.
Co-Hosted by the Texas Night Sky Festival® Team and Austin Astronomical Society, the festivities will take place at the Pedernales Falls Star Theater, adjacent to the Equestrian Area in the park. Parking will be available near the activity area which is adjacent to the Star Theater.
From the park entrance follow the yellow arrows to the park headquarters, denoted with a red dot on the map above, to obtain your park entry permit. Then proceed to the Star Theater, highlighted in blue on the map at http://cdn.austinastro.org/…/Pedernales-Falls-State-Park.png
In case of inclement weather, a “Go” or “No Go” notification will be posted on our Texas Night Sky Festival Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TexasNightSkyFestival/ by 2 p.m. on the day of the party.
This event is the first of many star party events which will be hosted via a new partnership between Austin Astronomical Society and Pedernales Falls State Park. This public star party has the added attraction of having activities brought to you by the Texas Night Sky Festival® Team, which is comprised of representatives from the Hays County Chapter Texas Master Naturalists, IDA Texas and the City of Dripping Springs.
Weather permitting, it will be an excellent family-friendly activity for all ages to experience.
