Austin Astronomical Society (AAS), in collaboration with St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, brings to the public Austin Under the Stars (AUTS). AUTS is designed to bring the spectacles of the night sky to the Austin Metropolitan community. This special event, free of charge, is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, July 29 and will take place on the St. Stephen’s Campus off of Capital of Texas Highway at 6500 St. Stephen’s Drive 78746.
Joining AUTS for the tenth year in a row are the folks of the Texas Museum of Science and Technology. They will be providing 20 minute shows in their mobile planetarium and will be on hand to answer any questions about the their latest exhibits and shows.
The event will kick off with amateur astronomers from the AAS providing safe solar viewing and before moving into darker sky observing once the sun sets. Also back by popular demand this year will be micro-talks on astronomy as well as activities for our young astronomers.
Tentative Schedule
- 6pm – Solar Observing, AstronomyTalk, and Planetarium Shows
- 9pm – night time observing at various stations
- During the event: Ask An Astronomer, Astronomy Arts & Crafts, Junior Astronomer Program
This is an exciting opportunity to come out and learn more about astronomy and the skies above us. Viewable throughout the evening will be an amazing display of the cosmos including: Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn as well as many stars, globular clusters, nebulae.
