AAS members are invited to a special event screening of the amazing new film, Hidden Figures, on January 4th, 2017, 7pm at Galaxy Highland Theater, 6700 Middle Fiskville Road, Austin 78752.
Please join us for an early screening of Hidden Figures, the amazing new film about Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and the unsung heroines of the US Space Program, and is based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s non-fiction book Hidden Figures.
As there are limited seats, we’re asking AAS members to sign up to reserve any ticket(s). You may add family members if they are part of your Family Membership. Please be at the theatre at 6:15pm to get your reserved ticket(s) from Joi Chevalier outside the theater – tickets will not be given out after 6:45pm. If you reserve a spot and cannot attend please let Joi know asap, so the ticket can be given to someone else who’d like to go!

If you’re not familiar with the book or the new film, here’s a bit of information:
“Hidden Figures” recounts the story of the African-American mathematician, Katherine Johnson, and her two colleagues, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, who, while working in the segregated West Area Computers division of Langley Research Center, helped NASA catch up in the Space Race. Using their calculations, John Glenn became the first American astronaut to make a complete orbit of the Earth.
The film stars Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Johnson, the African American physicist, space scientist, and mathematician who calculated flight trajectories for Project Mercury and the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Moon. The film also features Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, and Jim Parsons.
