The Texas Night Sky Festival is an event being put on by the International Dark-Sky Association and in co-hosted by the City of Dripping Springs and the Hays County Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists.  It is taking place Saturday March 5.The Austin Astronomical Society is key sponsor of this event and we are playing a very large role in its activities.  We will be providing scopes for solar and night time observing along with two booths with society information and activities.  We are also partnering with Starry Sky Austin who will have a booth with activities and carrying out a solar system walk on the premises.  

Please find below a list of the areas in which we will need personnel and roughly how many.  The event will run from 3:00p – 10:00 and should you be able to attend for any of the volunteer spots below please note for roughly what time in case we need to have shifts/coverage in some cases.  Of course there may be some of you that will wish to stay the whole day and participate in several capacities.  Feel free to see the website for information on the other vendors, sponsors and general details.

Austin Astronomical Society Booth – talking to event patrons, assisting with the activity table, showing off materials, handouts and observing tools.  Ideally 4-6 volunteers from 3:00p – 8:00p with an arrival time onsite of no later than 2:30p.

Starry Sky Austin Booth and Walk – volunteers to assist at the booth with teach folks how to make light shields out of various materials.  Ideally 4-6 volunteers from 3:00p – 8:00p with an arrival time onsite of no later than 2:30p.

Solar Observing – astronomers with solar scopes to provide safe solar observing.  Ideally 5-7 volunteers from 3:00p – 5:45p with an arrival time onsite no later than 2:00p

Nighttime Observing – astronomers with telescopes for nighttime observing. Ideally 8-10 volunteers from 6:30 – 10:00 p with an arrival time onsite no later than 5:30p.
